DORIS AND THAT ELUSIVE "OSCAR"... One thing is hard for Doris Day fans to understand: She does not want an Academy Award. That phase of her career was " a lifetime ago", and she is not interested in receiving this or all the hoopla that goes along with it. She has said this many times, but we tend to ignore that.
It is not generally advertised as such, but we understand that the offers HAVE been made in the past and turned down. (The same is true of the Kennedy Center Honors Awards). Most of the time, the award is offered with the condition that she accept it in person. We all know that is not going to happen. But the real point is that it is totally up to our beautiful lady to decide what is best for her. And no one else should push it.
So, we might as well accept the fact that even though she is still the Top Rated Female Box Office Star of All Time, that was then and this is now. And now, it is all about The Doris Day Animal Foundation. So...we let it rest, and support Doris in all her efforts on behalf of animals worldwide, knowing in our hearts that she has already won the Oscar...and every other possible award.
