Movies have been a big part of American Life and they have given us some of the best music of the 20th Century as well! We begin with the first year awards were given.

Oscar Winning Songs, in most years, became some of the biggest hits of the year. We'll make a start here with those songs nominated for oscars in a given year, and emphasize those that won, with a slight nod as well to those which could or should have won. Where possible, we have provided links for you. Click on the song title or artist to hear the song on youtube. (Also, in some cases, click on the movie title to see the original trailer, if available.) Some songs are no longer available; that should tell you something about the choice!
