SO MUCH FOR THE GLOBE and its usually trashy pictures of Doris! HERE IS THE MOST CURRENT PICTURE OF HER THAT IS BEING USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH ADS FOR THE NEW CD RELEASES:
BELOW IS: SAMPOD'S TRAVELING CARD TO DORIS CONGRATULATING HER ON THE NEW CD
But now, let's look back. CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: (ALSO SEE MOVIE SONGS below) "LOVE SOMEBODY" 1948 DORIS' FIRST MILLION SELLING SINGLE AS A SOLO ARTIST. HER SINGING PARTNER-BUDDY CLARK
THIS PICTURE WAS TAKEN AT THE COLUMBIA STUDIOS IN NEW YORK THE DAY OF HER FIRST SOLO RECORDING SESSION:
FOUR YEARS LATER, DORIS WITH HARRY JAMES ON A HIT SINGLE FROM 1951>>> NOBODY DOES IT BETTER.... "THE LULLABY OF BROADWAY":
AND THIS VERSION IS THE FINALE FROM THE FILM, "LULLABY OF BROADWAY" . TAKE NOTE OF THE DANCING. OTHER DANCERS HAVE SAID THAT BOTH DAY AND NELSON DID SOME DANGEROUS THINGS IN THIS DANCE WHICH THEY MADE LOOK EASY. UP AND DOWN STAIRS IN HIGH HEELS AND LONG DRESS IS A FEAT. DORIS AND GENE WERE BOTH UNDERRATED. IT IS TIME TO GIVE CREDIT WHERE IT HAS BEEN LONG OVERDUE.
FROM HER #1 SELLING ALBUM, "DAY BY DAY" COMES TWO OF 12 GREAT SONGS:
"I REMEMBER YOU"
"I SEE YOUR FACE BEFORE ME"
THIS IS A TERRIFIC ALBUM STILL AVAILABLE. ANYONE WHO WANTS A TRUE COLLECTION OF THE CLASSICS MUST HAVE THIS ONE IN A COLLECTION. LUCKILY FOR YOU, IT IS AVAILABLE TODAY AS A TWO-CD IN ONE COLLECTION ALONG WITH "DAY BY NIGHT".
FROM THE MOVIE JUMBO, TWO MORE GREAT ONES:
"LITTLE GIRL BLUE"
MY ROMANCE
THE TITLE SONG FROM HER SECOND MOVIE, 1949 "MY DREAM IS YOURS"
THERE WERE LOTS OF GREAT SONGS IN "MY DREAM IS YOURS"/ THIS ONE WAS A HIT FOR DORIS WITH BUDDY CLARK: "I"LL STRING ALONG WITH YOU"
C'EST SI BON... DO YOU LIKE DORIS WITH A FRENCH ACCENT? This one was featured in her 3rd film, " IT'S A GREAT FEELING" from 1949. It's called: "AT ZE CAFE RENDEVOUS"
THE ONES THAT SOMEHOW GOT AWAY...
IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A HIT...it was recorded in 1963 but it was NEVER RELEASED. Why not? Good Question! "LET THE LITTLE GIRL LIMBO"
And here is another one. Recorded in 1964; also, never released.
This next one was featured in the film, "Strictly Ballroom" but only released on the "Latin for Lovers" album, never as a single. Why not? "PERHAPS, PERHAPS, PERHAPS"
Here is a Doris song from the late 40's we loved; hope you like it, too... (special thanks to CS for another great you tube video):
In a tv interview, arranger Frank Comstock (who was also a sometime neighbor and good friend to Doris) told the interviewer that there had been plans afoot for Doris to record an album of songs based on a classical theme. How cool would that have been? We do have one example of how it might have sounded. Here, from "Young At Heart" is a song based on Felix Mendelssohn's classic air, "On Wings of Song". This one was called
F L i P s I d E s sometyimes a great song goes unnoticed because the flip side happened to be a big hit, and very often it is the fault of a deejay who does not play both sides. In 1947, Doris had a big hit with "Papa, Won't You Dance With Me" (deservedly so...her first top charted single). HOWEVER, there was a great song on the other side. It was played like crazy on jukeboxes; it just did not get the radio play it deserved. Many people who bought the hit side ended up liking the flip better. So, here for your enjoyment is that flipside: "SAY SOMETHING NICE ABOUT ME BABY" +++ +++ +++ Watch our slideshow featuring the covers from Doris Day’s original Columbia Recording studio albums (30 albums from 1949 through 1967; 3 new one ,now out this year, not included!)
From 1954's movie YOUNG AT HEART co-starring Frank Sinatra comes this exceptionally beautiful song. In the movie, Frank sang the song and Doris just did the finish of the song with him. Here she does the entire piece by herself, and it is definitely one of her best recordings and a great love song for anytime. (By special request from one of our forum regulars from the Deep South!)
"YOU, MY LOVE"
BIG MOVIE HIGHLIGHTSONGS
"IT'S MAGIC"from "ROMANCE ON THE HIGH SEAS" 1948 1st film 1st Oscar Nominated Song

THIS ONE GAVE DD HER SECOND GRAMMY AWARD FOR BEST SONG FROM A MOTION PICTURE. THE MOVIE: "THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH"
"QUE SERA, SERA" (WHATEVER WILL BE. WILL BE) 1956"THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH" ANOTHER ACADEMY AWARD WINNING SONG
"JULIE"1956 Title Song from the film was also nominated for an Oscar that year. Here are the screen title credits and first two scenes from the movie, which feature Doris singing the song. Co-star: Louis Jordan. The movie got its first "official" release on DVD and BLUERAY in 2011... It is a good thriller!

"I'LL NEVER STOP LOVING YOU"1955 Also from "Love Me or Leave Me"; this was another Academy Award Nominee for 1955.

AN AMAZING BUT NOT WELL KNOWN SONG BY DORIS (songs of faith)
NO RHYME OR REASON......... Sometimes, we wonder why some things just did not happen. FIRST: WHY DIDN'T "IT'S MAGIC" win the Oscar over "Buttons and Bows" in 1948. No logical explanation. ANOTHER: In 1949, the top hit song from "IT'S A GREAT FEELING" was the title song. Why wasn't it this?
"BLAME MY ABSENT-MINDED HEART"
THAT WAS THE SAME YEAR DORIS HAD A GIGANTIC MILLION SELLING HIT WITH A SIMILAR SOUNDING SONG CALLED "AGAIN" (featuring the Mellomen)
SOME CALL IT A SONG OF FAITH; I CALL IT A CHRISTMAS SONG "SCARLET RIBBONS (FOR HER HAIR)"

A COMPLETE TRANSFORMATION Here is a little sample of the scrapbook That Carol did in a make-over of my old scrapbook albums, which I began back in 1948, my collection of everything I had about Doris Day. First you will see what my original album(s) looked like "before" (when Carol received them ) followed by the unbelievable transformation "after". Remember, because I had so many items that I had collected since 1948.....Carol could only take a few pictures of the finished product; it took (3) 100 page scrapbook albums to complete the job. You will see on a good many of the pictures where the tape had turned yellow and the articles were very old and crumbling because of all the years I've had them. She did a lot of cropping and trimming but some of the things just could not be covered up. Hope you enjoy seeing maybe some pictures of Doris you might not have ever seen and realize what a treasure trove Mike has in this collection.
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER.......... HERE IS A GREAT SONG BY DORIS FROM 1952 THAT SHE SANG ON HER RADIO SHOW; IT WAS NEVER RELEASED AS A SINGLE.
